A Reviewer’s Year - what does it all mean?

A year in the life of a #jazz reviewer. 52 action-packed weeks filled with musical jollity and good vibes. Usually…

In figures:

283 albums received - 268 CDs, 11 downloads, 4 vinyl albums.

113 albums reviewed. I make that around 1 in 2.8.

In all honesty, I was sent a lot more download links but never got round to checking them out. Mostly, they seemed to be mere precursors to the arrival of a CD.

Every vinyl album was a joy - 100% pleasure.

CDs and downloads - not always a raft of unalloyed pleasure it must be said. But I did listen to [at least part of] all of them. Except for one or two CDs whose covers and/or titles were such affronts to good taste that I couldn’t bring myself to open them…

The human voice is dead good at singing words. So why waste time going all flutey or soprano saxy? Seriously, why? Just buy an instrument people.

"You must believe in Spring" or so the song says. It won’t make it any warmer though. Thermal undergarments remain key to personal comfort.
